X-Men 3 & Da Vinci-Disappointing
Sunday, May 28th, 2006So I saw the much hyped and overly advertised Da Vinci Code which had, Tom Hanks and Audrey Tatou.
You know, I like Audrey Tatou’s movies, she is a very good actress but I have to say, Da Vinci Code did her no justice at all. Tom Hanks is a great actor but, even he failed to shine in this movie. He should have just kept his hair short and not go for the ‘arty-farty’ flop. Instead, Paul Bettany shone as Silas.
I have not read the book by Dan Brown and now, I have no intention of ever reading any of his books if plots like these are anything to go by for his other stories. Yes, it is sacriligious to even suggest that Jesus had a wife and child, it is however, not a novel idea. I never understood the fascination of the Da Vinci Code and though I reserved comment before I had seen the movie then, alas I feel there is not justification to even spend $9.50 on the show with a plot as thin as paper and riddles as clear as day. I really regretted watching it.
Dan Brown might seem like a terrbily intelligent and creative guy coming up with all these riddles but, to anyone who is interested in the arts and history of europe…..the answers are just all there. Perhaps it is presumptious of me to completely lambast the Da Vinci Code based on the movie itself but, seriously I’d thought that there were many other better authors out there whose novels deserved being made into movies, not Dan Brown’s.
Alright, enough about Da Vinci code. I went to watch X-men 3 today. I was an avid fan of the comic series back in secondary school when paradiz center was the place to go for comics and had even collected their figurines (I still have Gambit, Wolverine and Nightcrawler in a box somewhere). I had watch the earlier 2 X-men movies and I was expecting ‘The Last Stand’ to really wrap things up, to end with a big bang.
The build up was there, the upsets were there but the big bang was not. They had the Phoenix, but not as impressive as I’d expected and imagined. In X-Men 2, some characters were introduced and joined in the Prof X vs Magneto foray. X-men 3, they were missing and the X-Men ended up with only 6 members. I understood the limited constraints in having so many characters in the series and so little time to introduce them but, I was hoping for a really big mutant vs mutant ending wherein at least, more of the X-men fought against Magneto’s army of mutants. It was disappointing.
Sighs, what happened to all the summer blockbuster movies? Where are they hiding them? Well, at least Mission Impossible 3 was worth the money. Now, I’m just waiting for Silent Hill to settle in June.
